Komorebi (full name: Kaze Komorebi) is one of the main characters of the DEMONS Series. Introduced in DEMONS I: The Birth of Magic, he also appears in the prequel short story DEMONS: Fall of the Fearless (which you can read for free right now if you want to).
Who is Komorebi? Komorebi is a centaur samurai bounty hunter (yep, I appreciate that’s a mouthful!). Adopted and raised by a human when he was young following the death of his centaur family, he has grown up to become a formidable warrior, hunting dangerous bounties across the kingdom. Initially working alone, he later teams up with the half-orc Neve, who becomes his mentee and bounty hunting partner.
Komorebi’s origin. Komorebi started off as a backup D&D character idea – you can read more about how D&D helped me to get into fantasy writing here. I was playing in a campaign and we left a session on a cliffhanger: my PC (player character) was on death saving throws (i.e. close to death). My DM (Dungeon Master) asked me to prepare a backup character, just in case my current one kicked the bucket. In the end he survived, so I didn’t get to play Komorebi as a result – but I still have a character sheet for him, so maybe I’ll play him in a one-shot one day…
I then planned for him to appear as an NPC (non-player character) in my own campaign, but given his elaborate backstory, I thought it’d be too much to have him as either a PC or an NPC – but I realised he’d make for a good story in its own right… And so Komorebi became a character in DEMONS.

Komorebi’s story. (Note: This contains minor spoilers for DEMONS I!) During the story, we discover that Komorebi isn’t going after just any old bounties… but some of the surviving bandits from what was once one of the most feared bandit clans in both kingdoms: the Black Howl.
But why is he after these bounties in particular? And how do they tie into his tragic past? I guess you’ll have to read DEMONS I and find out for yourself…!
If he were a D&D 5E character. Centaur race/species. Fighter class (Samurai subclass). Two-Weapon Fighting as his fighting style. His katanas would be equivalents of a longsword and a shortsword, so he’d need the Dual Wielder feat. Splint armour. STR & CON as his main stats; CHA as his dump stat (he ain’t much of a talker). If you need to be able to justify this feared bounty hunter as being a Level 1 character, in the story he’s not long recovered from a near-death skirmish, so you could say that his stats ‘reset’ (or something like that) following his lengthy recovery.
